Privacy Policy
The short version. Daycie helps families in Canada find childcare and helps daycare providers manage their listing. We collect only what we need to run the service, we never sell personal information, we don't use third-party advertising trackers, and you can delete your account at any time.
1. Who we are
Daycie (daycie.ca and daycie.com) is operated by Averoan Technologies Inc., a company based in British Columbia, Canada ("Daycie", "we", "us"). We handle personal information in line with British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), where it applies.
Privacy questions or requests: info@daycie.ca.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: your name, email address, password (stored only as a secure hash), and the type of account (parent or provider).
- Parent profile (optional): your city or area, the care type and start date you're looking for, and, if you choose, your child's first name and age group so you don't have to retype them on waitlist or tour forms.
- Activity you create: daycares you save or compare, tour requests, waitlist and enrolment requests, and messages you send to daycares through Daycie.
- Provider information: your name and role at the daycare, the daycare's hours, fees, description, photos, phone, website and open-spot updates.
- Payments: provider subscriptions and any online payments are handled by Stripe. Card details go directly to Stripe; we never see or store full card numbers. We keep a record of the plan, status and amounts.
- Support emails: anything you send to us by email.
Information from Google Sign-In
If you choose "Continue with Google", Google shares your name, email address and whether that email is verified with us. We use this only to create your Daycie account and sign you in. We do not request access to your Gmail, contacts, calendar, Drive or any other Google data.
Information collected automatically
- Basic usage statistics: pages viewed, the date, and an approximate city/region/country worked out from your IP address. Visits are counted with a visitor ID that is a one-way hash which changes every day, so we can't follow you across days. We don't store the IP address with these statistics, and they are deleted after 180 days.
- Security logs: our servers keep standard technical logs (IP address, browser type, time) for a short period to keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
- Sign-in storage: we store a sign-in token in your browser's local storage so you stay logged in. We don't use advertising cookies.
Public daycare information
Daycare listings are built from public sources, mainly the Government of British Columbia's open data on licensed child care (used under the Open Government Licence – British Columbia), plus public information the daycare publishes, such as its website contact email and public Google reviews. We may email a daycare at its published business email to invite it to claim its free listing; every such email includes a one-click unsubscribe.
3. How we use information
- To run Daycie: show daycares, save your shortlist, send tour, waitlist and enrolment requests, and deliver messages.
- To verify that a person claiming a daycare actually runs it (we send a code to the daycare's email on record, or call its listed phone number).
- To send account emails: verification codes, password resets, replies to your messages, and alerts you turn on.
- To process provider subscriptions and payments through Stripe.
- To understand which pages and cities are used, so we can improve the service.
- To keep Daycie safe, prevent fraud and spam, and meet legal obligations.
We do not sell personal information, rent it, or use it for third-party advertising.
4. When information is shared
- With the daycare you contact. When you request a tour, join a waitlist, apply to enrol or send a message, that daycare sees the details you send it. Daycares cannot browse parents who haven't contacted them.
- With service providers who help us run Daycie, only as needed for their job: our hosting provider (servers), Stripe (payments), Hostinger (email delivery), Google (sign-in, and loading public reviews and photos for listings) and map services (map display).
- For legal reasons, if required by law, or to protect the safety of people or the service.
- If the business changes hands, information may transfer to the new owner, who must keep protecting it under this policy.
Some of these providers may store information outside Canada (for example, in the United States), where it may be subject to the laws of that country.
5. Google user data
Daycie's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use Google account information (name and email) only to sign you in and run your account. We don't transfer it to others except as needed to provide the service, for security, or as required by law, and we never use it for advertising or sell it.
6. Children's information
Daycie is for adults: parents, guardians and childcare providers. Children do not use Daycie. A parent may choose to share their child's first name, age or start date with a daycare, for example on a waitlist or enrolment form; that information is shared only with the daycare the parent chooses. We don't ask for children's photos.
7. How long we keep information
- Account information: while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except records we must keep for legal, tax or fraud-prevention reasons.
- Usage statistics: 180 days.
- Payment records: as long as tax law requires.
8. Your choices and rights
- Access and correction: you can see and edit most of your information in your dashboard, or ask us for a copy.
- Deletion: delete your account any time from Account settings, or email us.
- Emails: unsubscribe from non-essential emails with the link in each email.
- Google: you can remove Daycie's access at any time from your Google Account's "Third-party apps & services" page.
- Complaints: if you're not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
9. Security
All connections use HTTPS. Passwords are hashed, admin access requires two-factor authentication, and access to personal information is limited to people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, so if we learn of a breach that creates a real risk of significant harm, we'll notify affected people and regulators as the law requires.
10. Changes
We may update this policy. We'll change the date at the top, and for important changes we'll let you know by email or on the site.
